Gemeint ist die Besteigung des h\u00f6chsten Berges eines jeden Kontinents.<br \/>Als der Amerikaner Richard Daniel Bass 1983 begann den jeweiligen Berg auf den sieben Kontinenten zu besteigen, ahnte noch niemand, dass dieses Projekt eines der begehrtesten unter Bergsteigern werden w\u00fcrde.<br \/>Mittlerweile gibt es bereits mindestens zwei Varianten zur originalen Version. Dick Bass allerdings hatte die Idee, schrieb ein Kapitel Bergsteigergeschichte und gilt seither als Begr\u00fcnder des Projektes.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Die Varianten<\/b><br \/>Seven Summits und zehn Gipfel?<br \/>Es gibt immer wieder Diskussionen um die Gipfel der Seven Summits, weil der exakte Grenzverlauf einiger Kontinentalplatten unter Geologen und Bergsteigern umstritten ist.<br \/>Die bekannteste Variante zu den originalen Seven Summits stammt vom Kanadier Pat Morrow. Diese Version favorisiert die Carstens Pyramide in Papua Neuguinea, einer Australien vorgelagerten Insel. Der Carstens Peak geh\u00f6rt zwar politisch zu Indonesien, liegt aber noch auf dem australischen Kontinentalshelf und ist sehr viel h\u00f6her und deutlich schwieriger zu besteigen als sein Gegenst\u00fcck der Mount Kosciuszko.<br \/>Doch es gibt noch weitere Gipfel, die zu den Seven Summits gerechnet werden k\u00f6nnten.<br \/>Da man von unterschiedlichen Annahmen beim Verlauf der tektonischen Plattengrenzen zwischen Europa und Asien ausgeht, ist umstritten, ob als h\u00f6chster Gipfel Europas der Mont Blanc oder der Elbrus in Russland gelten sollte.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Eine weitere Idee<\/b><br \/>Neuseeland wird oft zum australischen Kontinent gerechnet. Deshalb k\u00f6nnte man auch den Mount Cook als Variante anbieten.
